The mission plan calls for jettisoning a The Pathfinder module containing a robot mini-rover, the Sojourner, and various other instruments in 1997. The Sojourner will lander, analyze an area of about 100 square meters around the landing site by means of powerful instruments: a stereoscopic spectral filter imager (IMP), an alpha proton x-ray spectrometer, and a group of instruments for analyzing the atmosphere (ASI/MET). Sojourner will thus make an in-depth analysis of the Martian soil. The findings The complete should eventually enable us not only to understand how module the crust of Mars evolves and climatic conditions develop, but also to peer into the history of the the planet and its environment. Deployement The American space program is clearly targeting Mars of Sojourner research. The Russians, too, have their own Mars exploration program, which should complement American findings. In fact, the two nations will be exchanging data from their Mars missions. MARS BETA1
